How to form the letter W
Tracing is the gentlest way into handwriting, and the letter W worksheet gives kids big dotted guide letters to trace before they try it solo. Here is how each form is made, in the words you can say out loud as they trace.
Uppercase W: Start at the top-left. Slant down to a point, slant up to the middle-top, slant down to a second point, then slant up to the top-right. Down, up, down, up — four slants in a row, like two V's side by side.
Lowercase w: Exactly the same, smaller, sitting between the midline and the baseline: down, up, down, up — four little slants making two small V's joined together.
Once the shape feels familiar, hunt for the letter in real words — web, whale, wagon, window and worm all start with W. Saying the sound while tracing the shape is how the letter really sticks (a web, a whale and a worm all start with W).
