Dump crayons on a flat surface.
Pick up red. Put it down. Pick up orange. Put it next to red. Pick up yellow. Continue the rainbow without saying a word.
A 2-year-old will line up by their own logic (often size, sometimes color). A 4-year-old will recite the rainbow. Many kids will then line up everything else in the room.
Line up by length. Line up alternating two colors. Form letters with the crayons. "Make a face with the crayons."
